Broken phone screen: what actually needs replacing
Cracked glass is not always a full display job. Here is how we tell the difference in the workshop.
People say “the screen is smashed” and mean three different things. The glass is cracked but the picture is perfect. The picture is black or lined. Touch has died in one corner. Those are not the same repair.
Glass versus the display
On many phones the outer glass and the image panel are laminated. You cannot peel one off the other in a kitchen. If the image is damaged, you are talking about a display assembly, not a polish.
After a cheap previous repair
If a screen has already been changed, we look for missing waterproofing, leftover adhesive and cameras that no longer sit flush. A second repair is often a tidy-up as well as a part.
What to do now
Use a case that keeps glass fragments in. Back up if the phone still works. Book the exact model rather than searching for a generic price.
